Musical Selection

Futaba Niekawa received her bachelor of music in piano performance from The Eastman School of Music under Thomas Schumacher and her master's in piano performance from New England Conservatory with Patricia Zander. She has given solo recitals at Harvard Adams House in Boston and performed with the Keyboard Extravaganza/Eastman at Washington Square in Rochester, NY. In 2005, Ms. Niekawa took first prize in the Massachusetts MTNA Young Artist Piano Competition after winning the same prize in New York State in 2004. She received the Cecile Genhart Award from the Eastman School of Music and second prize in the Lee Competition in Sioux Falls, SD in 2002. Ms. Niekawa was also the recipient of the Director's Scholarship for Exceptional International Students at Eastman School of Music during her four years of study at the school. She has participated in master classes with John Owings and Christopher Elton at the Cliburn Piano Institute; Pascal Roge and Brigitte Engerer at the Nice International Music Academy in Nice, France; Andrzei Jasinski at the Mozarteum Summer Academy in Salzburg; and with Roman Lebedev, Renna Kellaway, Eric Heidsieck and Bruno Canino. She also participated in the 6th Hamamatsu International Piano Academy in 2001.
