Musical Selection

Han-Chien Lee was born in Taiwan. She began her piano studies at age six at the Go-Ting Music School in Taipei. In 1995, she performed Japanese composer Nobuyoshi Horibe's Piano Concerto with Poland's Capella Cracoviensis Chamber Orchestra. She received first prize at both Taipei's Piano Competition for Children and the Yamaha Piano Competition, and was a finalist in the Fourth Frédéric Chopin Piano Competition of Taipei. In 1996, Ms. Lee began studying at The Curtis Institute of Music with Claude Frank and Eleanor Sokoloff. In 1999-2000, she was the Gold Medalist at the Young Pianist Competition of New Jersey, performed at Steinway Hall, won the Philadelphia Orchestra Competition and also received the prestigious Chi-Mei Scholarship in Taiwan. In 2001, Ms. Lee performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra and toured with the American Elite Youth Orchestra in Los Angeles and cities throughout Taiwan. She has performed several concerts with the Baltimore Symphony and Plainfield Symphony Orchestras and has given recitals at several U.S. cities and in Taipei. She has received full scholarships for the Sarasota, Norfolk, Music Academy of the West and TCU/Cliburn Piano Institute Chamber Festivals. Ms. Lee is also a member of Eight Hands, a piano and percussion ensemble that won the Yale Music School chamber music competition and performed at Muhlenburg College and Montana University. Future engagements include solo and chamber music recitals in various cities in Asia and America. Ms. Lee is currently studying at The Peabody Conservatory with Boris Slutsky. She holds a masters degree and artist diploma from Yale University's School of Music where she studied with Claude Frank. She has also performed for master classes with Boris Berman, Peter Frankl, Gary Graffman, Richard Goode, Robert Levin, Jerome Lowenthal, Seymour Lipkin, John Perry, Andreas Schiff and Susan Starr.
