Musical Selection

Jie Luo is a native of Chengdu, China, where he began to play the piano at the age of three at the Sichuan Conservatory, under distinguished teachers such as Dan Zhaoyi and Tang Hanguo. Since the age of five, he has performed frequently in public and on television. He has recorded professionally and appeared on an elite New Year's television program. In China, he was the winner of several competitions, including first place in the Third Young Artist Piano Competition in Chengdu. Mr. Luo came to Atlanta, GA, with his family in 1996 and has continued to win competitions and awards locally and nationally. Recent awards include first place at the Blount Young Artist Concerto Competition in Montgomery, AL, and winner of the Corpus Christi International Piano Competition. He has also appeared as a soloist with the Atlanta, Fort Worth and Montgomery Symphony Orchestras. Recent performances include a performance for President Jimmy Carter, an appearance on From the Top on NPR and for Festival of China at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. From 1999-2003, Mr. Luo was enrolled in the Juilliard Pre-College Division studying under Victoria Mushkatkol, and now is currently a scholarship student of Yoheved Kaplinsky at the College Division of Juilliard in New York.
