José Menor was born in Sabadell, Spain, where he studied piano, chamber music, composition and conducting at the Conservatorio Superior Municipal de Música in Barcelona. He obtained a post-graduate diploma and master's degree from the Royal College of Music in London, where he studied with pianists Yonty Solomon and Kevin Kenner. Mr. Menor is currently studying with Claude Frank and Peter Frankl at the Yale School of Music. Highlights of his 2005-2006 season included concerts with the Barcelona Symphony, Orquestra Simfónica and a recital debut at Wigmore Hall in London. He has given recitals throughout Spain, the UK, the Netherlands, Germany and Italy, and performed in the Festival Internacional de Música y Danza in Granada. Other performances in the UK have included Steinway Hall, St. Martin in the Fields, St. James Picadilly and St. John's Smith Square. In 2004, Mr. Menor was a finalist of the Young Concert Artists Concert Trust, and also won prizes at Ricard Wiñes Competition, Premi Cuitat de Betga and the junior division of the Maria Canals Piano Competition. He was the first prize winner in consecutive years at the World Piano Competition in Cincinnati, performing as a winner at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall at the age of 15. As well as performing as a soloist, he has been a member of the Trio Guinjoan, which has given several recitals in Spain. He is also a composer; his string quartet Limits was premiered in Barcelona in 2001. He has been music director and pianist of chamber opera productions at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona. Mr. Menor has received scholarships from the British Council, Pedro Barrié de la Maza Foundation, Myra Hess Trust, Tillett Trust, Generalitat de Catalunya, Fundació La Caixa and Aspen Music Festival and School.
