Olivier Cavé
Age: Country of Birth: Country of Citizenship: Currently Residing In: Olivier Cavé was born in Switzerland. He studied piano at the Conservatoire de Sion and Conservatoire de Lausanne, where he won the prize for "distinguished achievement" at the end of his studies. After graduating, he studied with Maria Lilia Bertola and Nelson Goerner, and with Maria Tipo at the Scuola de Musica di Fiesole. Mr. Cavé's debut performance in September of 1991 was accompanied by the orchestra Camerata Lysy and conducted by Yehudi Menuhin. Over the next several years, he worked with artists such as Tibor Varga, Howard Griffiths, Barbara Hendricks and Isabelle Huppert. He was a soloist with the Düsseldorf Symphonic Orchestra, London Soloist Orchestra, Zürich Chamber Orchestra and Lausanne Chamber Orchestra. In June 2000 Mr. Cavé was a finalist in the Clara Schumann Competition, where his interpretation of Chopin's first concerto was deemed "excellent" by Martha Argerich. In 2002, his interpretation of Beethoven's first concerto was broadcast on RAI as part of a series of concerts for piano and orchestra by Beethoven to celebrate the seventieth birthday of Maria Tipo. In 2003, he was invited by Teatro alla Scala di Milano to play at the grand reopening of the Museum and Library of Theatre, where he played works by Liszt on the composer's original piano. In May of 2004 Mr. Cavé released his first album, entitled Réflexions, through Deutsche Grammophon. It contains a variety of pieces by Beethoven, Schubert, Scarlatti and Schumann. His second album on the same label will be released in 2007, featuring a collection of Baroque pieces.
