Ryan MacEvoy McCullough
Age: Country of Birth: Country of Citizenship: Currently Residing In: Ryan MacEvoy McCullough is a native of California. He began his musical studies at the age of two and piano with his mother at age five. Music has always been an important part of his life; in addition to classical training he received as a child, he also received instruction in the practice of music from other cultures, including the Hindustani tradition of Northern India and the complex percussion music of Mali. Because of the diverse influences of his musical upbringing, his playing has often been noted as having an unusual musical openness and attention to pure human expression. Home-schooled for much of his life, Mr. McCullough began college at Humboldt State University at age 15, graduating three years later summa cum laude with a BA in music, studying with Dr. Deborah Calsquin. He currently studies with John Perry at the Colburn School in Los Angeles. Other musical instructors have included the late Laurette Goldberg, Yves Henry, Yoheved Kaplinsky, Jerome Lowenthal and Tumi Watenabe. His piano performances have taken him from rural California to the big cities of Europe. He has appeared in concert at such venues as UNESCO in Paris, the Dolomites in Italy, Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles and on the airwaves of NPR. Mr. McCullough has appeared as a soloist with the Colburn Orchestra, Eureka Symphony, Humboldt Symphony, San Francisco State University Orchestra and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, including gold medals at the Milosz Magin in Paris and California Association of Professional Music Teachers, and silver medal winner at the Virginia Waring and World Piano Competitions.
