Musical Selection

Young-Im Choi, a native of Seoul, Korea, began studying piano at the age of seven. In 2002, she performed as a guest soloist with the Vrasov Orchestra in Romania. Her budding career has taken her throughout Korea to such venues as Chopin Hall and Yurim Art Hall, as well as to France, Romania and Spain. Ms. Choi's recital and chamber music performances include the festivals of Music Alp and the International Piano Festival. Ms. Choi has performed in master classes with Leon Fleisher, Solomon Mitkofsky and Pascal Devoyon. In addition, she has garnered top prizes in numerous competitions in Korea, including first prize in the Korean Times Competition and first place in the Teenager Competition, as well as the highest prizes in the Samik Piano Competition and Korean Pianist Association Competition. Ms. Choi received her training at the Ye-Won School and Seoul Arts High School under Young-Hye Chun. She completed a bachelor of music and master of music at the Yonsei University as a student of Young-Ho Kim. She also received a master of music and graduate performance diploma from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University under Alexander Shtarkman. She is currently working toward a doctorate at Michigan State University, where she is a scholarship student studying with George Vatchnadz.
