Liz Lerman Dance Exchange in "Still Crossing"

Liz Lerman Dance Exchange

Community Performance Opportunity

Help us celebrate the 30th anniversary of Liz Lerman Dance Exchange by performing in one of their signature works, STILL CROSSING, onstage at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center. No dance training is needed; all body types and ages are welcome.

Rehearsals will begin on the weekend of October 28; performances are on November 2 and 3. Make it a family project, bring a buddy or come alone. It would be lovely to include multi-generational families. Please spread the word widely and have interested individuals or groups contact me — Lynnie Raybuck — at 301.405.5974 or email me and be sure to include your own contact information. My associates, Jermaine Lewis and Wendy Clupper, will be helping organize.

The guest artist section (that's you!) lasts about 6 minutes, most of which is stately walking/entering. There is about a minute and a half of upper body and hand gestural work and, for those so inclined, a section of ground rolling. You will always be accompanied by Dance Exchange company members doing the same movements; older participants will have a buddy. You DO NOT need dance skills or a flexible body to participate. Participants will wear their own blue clothes.

We are honored to have the opportunity to host Liz and the Dance Exchange, whose commitment to diversity, community and ideas have been an inspiration to people all over the country. Liz received a MacArthur "Genius" grant in 2002 for her work in asking, and answering, the question: "Who can dance?" (The answer: Everyone!) What a wonderful thing that these talented artists live and work in our own community.

Let me know if you need more information or have questions. I hope to hear from you.
