Musical Selection

Spencer Myer is a graduate of The Juilliard School and Oberlin Conservatory. He won first prize at the 2004 UNISA International Piano Competition in Pretoria, South Africa, in addition to special prizes for Best Performance of Bach, Best Performance of a Commissioned Work and Semi-Final Round Recital, as well as both concerto prizes in the final round. Mr. Myer is the winner of the 2006 Christel DeHaan Classical Fellowship from the American Pianists Association and is also a laureate of the 2006 Esther Honens, 2005 Cleveland, 2005 Busoni (where he received the audience prize), 2004 Montréal and 2003 New Orleans International Competitions. In 2003, he made his New York recital debut at Weill Recital Hall of Carnegie Hall and his Asian debut in Beijing the following year with the China National Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Myer has performed with the L'orchestre symphonique de Montréal, Cleveland Orchestra, Johannesburg Philharmonic and Indianapolis Symphony under conductors Jahja Ling, Arjan Tien, Victor Yampolsky, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Rossen Milanov and Jacques Lacombe. In 2005 he returned to South Africa for a nationwide concert tour of recital and concerto appearances that included a performance of the five Beethoven concerti with the Chamber Orchestra of South Africa. He returned again in 2006 for performances of the two Ravel piano concerti with the Philharmonic Orchestras of Cape Town and Durban. He joined the roster of Philadelphia's Astral Artistic Services in 2003, as winner of their national auditions. Mr. Myer currently resides in New York City and completed his DMA at Stony Brook University in May 2005.
