Since opening in 2001, The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center has become a cultural force in the metropolitan Washington, DC area, known for adventuresome programming in dance, theatre, music and interdisciplinary art.

Along with our academic partners the School of Music and the School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies, we offer experiences that take you beyond the stage and into the creative process — performances, residencies, workshops, dialogues and other activities that help you dig deeper into the world of ideas.

Our staff

We are proud to contribute to your experience at The Clarice.

Sometimes we will have direct contact with you — fulfilling your ticket orders, replying to your emails or helping you to your seat. Other times you’ll find us behind the scenes as we plan the season of performances and events; design print and online materials; create sets, costumes, lighting and sound design; raise funds and balance the budget; or talk with the media about our work.

Our student employees

We employ approximately 250 students each year, and they are integral to our success.

Our students work closely with staff on every facet of our operations and they’re often the first people you encounter when calling for information or ordering a ticket. Not only do students work directly with our guests but they also have the opportunity to work directly with our artists.

Like our student performers, our student employees are consistently recognized for their motivation and professionalism.
